From March 2014 to the third Tuesday of April 2014, spring’s arrival was marked by continued temperature increases in all four observed cities. The monthly average temperature rose in San Antonio by 5 degrees Celsius (C) to 20C in New York by 3 degrees to 1C, in Chicago by 11 degrees to 12C, and in the city of Chicago by 11 degrees to 12C. Meanwhile, San Diego experienced a tepid increase of 0.3 degrees to 18.4C from last month, which was reported to be the warmest March in the city’s history since record keeping started in 1875.[1]

Early April 2014 until the middle of the month was colder than the two-year average in all observed cities except for San Diego. When comparing the past two-year average of April temperatures to this year’s mid-April temperatures, April 2014 feels colder than the two-year average in Chicago by 2 degrees, in New York by 0.2 degrees, and in San Antonio by 2 degrees. Due to offshore winds that warmed the coast, San Diego city felt 2 degrees warmer than the past two-year temperature average in this city for April.
