The ZEMA graph shows day-ahead peak electricity prices for January – March 2016, as reported by ICE. The red line represents CAISO SP15, the green line is PJM APS Zone, the black line represents ERCOT North 345KV, and the blue line – NYISO Zone A. Units are in USD/MWh.
Throughout the three month period, ERCOT prices remained balanced demonstrating no significant fluctuations. NYISO Zone A prices went through the roller coaster in March with the congested transmission grid conditions weighted down by the retirement of the coal-fired Dunkirk and Huntley units on March 1, 2016.
Prices at PJM and CAISO have been sliding smoothly with the heating season retreating and mild weather supporting expected demand.
