January 2016 – North American Electricity Day-Ahead Prices (ICE)

The ZEMA graph shows day-ahead peak electricity prices for January 2016, as reported by ICE. The red line represents CAISO SP15, the green line represents PJM APS Zone, the purple line represents ERCOT North 345KV, and the blue line represents NYISO Zone A. Units are in USD/MWh.

PJM and NYISO experienced a noticeable electricity price increase on January 06. In PJM, prices jumped by almost 10 USD/MWh and in NYISO – by 5 USD/MWh. Couple days later, NYISO prices started sliding down settling at end of the month on the mark lower than they started at the beginning of the year. PJM price remained at a high level supported by winter storm and cold temperature.
